Phoenix Transition House

Phoenix Transition House is a sixteen bed resource for women and children who are leaving an abusive situation.

We provide a safe, peaceful and supportive environment for women and women and their children who are undergoing transition in their lives.

Community agency and self referral.

Funded by the Ministry of Community Services.

Objectives

  • To provide temporary shelter and support for women and their children who are undergoing transition in their lives. Priorities are given to physically assaulted or threatened women and their children.
  • To provide temporary shelter and support for women and children in crisis who can no longer remain in their home situation due to threats of emotional and mental harassment.
  • Women, and women and their children who cannot find accommodation will be accepted but only on a day to day basis and at the discretion of the Program Manager.
  • To provide additional services such as short term supportive counseling, referral to appropriate agencies, assistance in attending appointments, and in finding housing.
  • To follow-up with women after they leave the Transition House.
  • To provide information to groups and organizations on the needs of women in transition.

Services

Phoenix provides activities associated with daily maintenance as well as resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals. Staff will also provide women with access to related services, such as may be needed for medical emergencies, and legal, or social service appointments.

Specifically Phoenix provides three nutritious meals a day, bedding, towels, essential toiletries, use of laundry facilities, crisis intervention and referral support, local transportation as required, accompaniment and advocacy support services.
